Amelia Earhart

July 2, 1937. Final flight and disappearance. Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan vanished over the central Pacific Ocean while attempting to circumnavigate the globe at the equator. No confirmed wreckage was recovered for 87 years. In 2024, a possible wreck discovery was announced — sonar imagery of an aircraft-shaped object near Howland Island. The investigation continues.

The Myth of the Missing Aviator

Earhart belongs to a specific aeromythic category: the pioneer whose disappearance became more powerful than any landing would have been. The missing aviator is a recurring figure — Amelia Earhart, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Flight MH370. The sky takes them away and does not give them back.
